Our longest running project is Team Skate. The young members have set an ambitious goal for a state-of-the-art skate park for youth in Liberty, and they have really worked hard and with great determination towards that goal: so far they have raised $50,000 and work is expected to start in Spring 2006. You can read about their dreams and efforts here.

Yotam Marom, of Camp Shomria , located on Lake Lousie Marie Road, in Liberty, contacted us to find community projects for some of the young people to get involved in. This is a camp whose programming promotes a strong commitment to Jewish continuity, social justice and community responsibility. Twenty teenagers were interested and worked on community projects twice weekly. Hardworking and enthusiastic, they did a wonderful job painting the benches in LaPolt Park and planting flowers in front of the stage there, as well as creating a beautiful garden across from Lo Cascio's Restaurant on School Street. This summer, Liberty CDC coordinated with Sullivan County Center for Workforce Development on a project involving five Liberty High School students, which took place between July 12 and August 19. Their project was to put together a Teen Employment Resource Directory, and they surveyed the businesses on Main Street and beyond. You can read what some of the team members had to say about their experience here. |
